Moving Checklist: What to Do One Week Before
The final week before your move is the busiest. Use this checklist to stay organised and avoid last-minute surprises.
The final week before a move is when small details start to matter. Use this practical checklist day by day to stay on top of every task — and arrive at moving day fully prepared.
7 Days Before — Confirm Everything
- Confirm your moving date and time with your removal company
- Check parking arrangements at both properties
- Confirm any required parking permits or suspensions
- Ensure your new property is ready (keys, access, cleaning)
- Notify neighbours if the move will affect access
5 Days Before — Pack Non-Essentials
- Pack books, decorations, and seasonal items
- Sort wardrobes — donate or pack clothes you won't need
- Empty drawers of small items into labelled boxes
- Defrost the freezer and use up perishable food
3 Days Before — Handle Admin
- Take final meter readings (gas, electric, water)
- Confirm Royal Mail redirection start date
- Update your address with key services
- Arrange childcare or pet care for moving day
2 Days Before — Pack Most Things
- Pack everything except day-of-move essentials
- Disassemble large furniture if needed (or arrange this with your removal team)
- Set aside an essentials box for the first night
- Charge all devices and gather important documents
1 Day Before — Final Preparations
- Pack your overnight essentials box
- Gather chargers, keys, documents, and valuables in one place to take with you personally
- Do a final clean of areas already empty
- Get a good night's sleep — moving day is long
Moving Day — Stay Calm and Communicate
Be ready when the removal team arrives. Walk them through the property, share any access notes for the new address, and keep your phone handy. Once everything is loaded, do a final check of every room, including under beds, on top of cupboards, and in the loft.
